20) Digital Proof Forum

Best GmbH, provider of solutions for the print and publishing market, was awarded the top places for its ICC-based software solutions at the second Digital Proof Forum which took place at the Institute for Media Studies (HdM) in Stuttgart. The results were achieved on the ink jet printers Canon BJ-W2200, EPSON Stylus Pro 7600 and HP Designjet 5500PS which produced results as good as, if not better than, more expensive systems and systems not conforming to ICC standards. The evaluation procedure Part of the preparation work for the Digital Proof Forum included printing a series of reference prints which were subsequently metrologically recorded. Mean values were determined to characterize the entire series of reference prints. These values represented the target for the metrological alignment of the proofing systems. In a second step, it was possible to make an additional visual comparison of the proofing system based on the original printout of the series of reference prints. The Digital Proof Forum used the new characterization chart ECI 2002 with 1485 color patches, which includes all the 928 color patches of the ISO 12642 (IT8.7/3) chart.
