Dear readers, here you
will find something about interesting innovations and news about Large Format
Printing. 1) FESPA Digital 2009: Optimism of Wide Format SectorThis year’s FESPA Digital event (Amsterdam RAI, 12-14 May
2009) attracted 9,682 visitors over three days, reflecting the overriding
optimism of the wide-format sector, and printers’ long-term vision of how
product and service innovation and investment in technology will sustain
their business growth. Visitors to the event discovered more than 300
exhibitors showing a vast array of new or enhanced products and solutions,
among them more than 50 new wide format printers. Over one third of visitors
to the show returned for a second day to maximize the value of their visit,
many of them taking the opportunity to attend seminar sessions in FESPA’s
Digital Revolutionary Theatre and the topical live debates on FESPA’s own
stand. More than 80 delegates attended FESPA’s Digital Textile conference to
explore the trends and opportunities in fabric applications. The next FESPA
Digital event will take place in More information:

3) Neolt and INX Digital unveil the X-Jet UV printer at FESPA DigitalNeolt, a specialist large format UV printer manufacturer, unveiled a prototype of its innovative X-Jet printer for the first time worldwide at FESPA Digital. The four-color X-Jet is an affordable, hybrid UV printer that uses advanced Xaar 1001 greyscale printheads to produce high-resolution 1440 dpi images on a wide variety of flexible media at speeds from 40 up to 120sqm/hr. The variable drop capability of the industrial-strength Xaar 1001 printhead enables 8 levels of variable drop size from 6-42 picolitres giving users the ability to choose the best resolution for each job from 360 dpi up to a maximum of 1440 dpi. The Neolt X-Jet uses INX Digital Triangle UV curable inks that have been formulated specifically for use with Xaar 1001 printheads to provide high quality performance on a range of materials including vehicle wrap adhesives. The combination of Neolt engineering, Xaar printheads, INX Digital engineering and Triangle inks enables the X-Jet to produce smooth tone graphics, fine detail, and sharp text to generate outstanding results quickly and reliably. Neolt and INX Digital engineering, in close cooperation, have also developed a version of this new printer for INX Digital and this was also be demonstrated at FESPA Digital as the Milano DXN1. Next-Generation VUTEk und new Rastek UV Inkjet printer
EFI reported that its presence at FESPA Digital was even more successful than the company had hoped, and that the newest hybrid additions to EFI's robust lineup of digital inkjet printers, the VUTEk GS2000 and QS3220, and the Rastek H650, were met with overwhelming interest. The EFI VUTEk GS2000 is a 2-metre hybrid UV printer that delivers dazzling photorealistic quality at incredible speeds. Able to print with true 600 dpi at 24-picolitre drops and 1000 dpi at 12-picolitre drops, and in eight colors, plus two channels for white, the GS2000 prints at speeds up to 186 sqm/hr. It prints on a broad range of flexible and rigid substrates, and transitions from rigid to roll-to-roll in minutes, making it the perfect substitute for wide and superwide applications. The EFI VUTEk QS3220 prints eye-popping images up to 3.2 meters wide at 1,080 dpi, perfect for Point-of-Purchase (POP) and high quality retail signage. Text prints cleanly and crisply, and EFI's Fiery XF RIP solution ensures consistent, accurate color and reliable output. The VUTEk QS3220 prints in six color plus white at speeds up to 84 sqm/hr. The Rastek H650 UV hybrid flatbed printer delivers best-in-class image quality at an affordable price, making it the perfect choice for production and print shop environments looking to offer quick service and photographic quality on a wide variety of rigid and flexible substrates. The Rastek H650 prints CMYK plus white in greyscale resolutions up to 600 dpi and in a binary resolution mode that prints at 1,200x900 dpi. More information:

The new UV LED curing system drastically reduces the amount of generated heat, allowing the printer to support a broader range of heat-sensitive media, such as foam and channel boards, PVC, acrylic and styrene panels. The ink is instantaneously cured by ultra-violet rays irradiated from UV LEDs. The JFX-1631 incorporates eight new print heads. The new head positioning system uses high resolution linear motors for ultra fine step accuracy of dot placement. This results in far fewer banding artifacts and even the possibility to print legible three point type. Two types of UV ink are available, flexible and hard, for a wide range of printing applications. White hard ink is also available to enable vivid full-color printing on transparent and colored materials. In addition Mimaki is offering new workflow software which enhances productivity and efficiency even further. More information:

The FTR is a factory installed option which fits onto the front and back of the NanoJet2 and syncs perfectly with the print stepping for reliable flatbed and UVRTR production. Initiating from the flatbed to the roll-to-roll option is accomplished by adjusting the vacuum settings with a couple clicks of the user-friendly GUI. The FTR effortlessly prints rolled materials up to 8’ wide using reliable beveled hydraulic pinch rollers that keep all flexible materials stable and centered on both the feed and the rewind for seamless roll-to-roll printing. Rigid materials are held firmly in place on the innovative 1.5m x 2.4m linear printing table with a strong sectional vacuum throughout the bed. The head carriage system allows for 100% accurate dot placement while printing both flexible and rigid materials. The FTR is ideal for production printing on most flexible or rigid material, up to 2 inch thick. The FTR can be added at the time of purchase to the NanoJet2 and is not a retro-fitted option for any other Jeti printers. More information:
