Dear readers,

here you will find something about interesting innovations and news about Large Format Printing.

1)     drupa 2012: 3 to 16 May in Düsseldorf, Germany

Printed electronics will soon revolutionize the production technology of many industries and at the same time serve the classic printing industry's standard printing processes. The topic is being addressed three times at the next drupa: with its own theme world in the drupa innovation park 2012, a conference day in the drupa cube and a Highlights Tour; added to this are the products and processes that approximately 30 exhibitors are presenting. Cooperation partner of the theme is the OE-A (Organic and Printed Electronics Association) in the VDMA. The theme world Printed Electronics in the drupa innovation park in Hall 7.0 provides an all-encompassing overview of the state of the art technology. The focus is on both new printing processes and machinery as well as highly innovative products for these production processes. One thing becomes quite clear: This former experimental field has become a highly industrialized segment with huge market potential. Visitors to drupa can convince themselves of this not least at the Organic and Printed Electronics Association stand, which is presenting a wealth of exhibits; these provide an excellent overview of the different application areas for printed electronics. "We are showing a number of applications at drupa, which have resulted from collaboration with our international member companies: from interactive books, to intelligent packaging, to sensors and displays and flexible solar cells", says Dr. Klaus Hecker, Managing Director of OE-A (Organic and Printed Electronics Association) in VDMA.

4)     Polytype: Virtu Quantum launch at drupa

Visitors to drupa will witness the official world-wide release of Polytype's new wide-format digital inkjet printing platform, the Virtu Quantum, which promises a blend of quality and speed. Now available in widths of 2.5m and 3.5m, the UV-curable machine incorporates high-definition 10pl print-heads, specially integrated by Polytype to produce 1,400dpi resolution for lush, rich images suited to a range of industrial and display applications. In a move characteristic of the Swiss manufacturer, the Virtu Quantum was vigorously tested over a period of months in a fully operational production environment after proof of concept was first demonstrated in 2011. Resultingly, the engine's speeds reach an impressive 300sq m/hour in production mode and a sporty 150-180sq m/hour in photographic. Applicable to both roll-to-roll and flat-bed modes and across a range of both popular and unusual media, the versatility afforded owners is a distinct advantage in the current, extremely competitive climate.

5)     swissQprint: Nyala – new flatbed printer at drupa 2012

Nyala, the new precision flatbed printer will be first shown at drupa 2012. The system can be equipped with fourfold CMYK, which increases the output compared to a basic configuration by four times. Nyala is already the third innovation developed by the young Swiss company swissQprint AG. Either 3,2 x 1,6m board material or 3,2m roll material can be printed with the basic configuration or with the roll to roll option. The increased output is possible with four times CMYK, meaning four print heads per color including white printing simultaneously. The so-called draft printing mode allows to print up to 215sqm/h. This is doubling the speed of an Impala model, which already broke records when introduced two years ago. Together with this impressive news the Nyala offers the same quality and modularity as its older «siblings» Impala and Oryx. swissQprint welcomes visitors to see their new inkjet system live at their booth.

28) viscom frankfurt 2012 with new theme worlds

viscom frankfurt 2012, 25 to 27 of October 2012 in Frankfurt / Main, Germany, comes with a number of new features. The subdivision of the trade fair into six theme worlds, for instance, gives clearer orientation to visitors and exhibitors. The assignment of products and services offered to six viscom worlds illustrates the broad range covered by the trade fair and provides a clearer structure. The Printing, Processes & Material offers everything from the printing world – from digital printing, large format printing and finishing technology to materials. The Advertising Technology, Signmaking & Light Advertising theme world focuses on signs, guiding and orientation systems, LED & neon, flexography, engraving, trade fair construction and shop fitting as well as car wrapping. The viscom world of Out of Home Media is dedicated to products and services from the OOH, DOOH, ambient media, public sector marketing and street furniture segments. Working Materials, Processes & Equipment are also part of viscom, featuring suppliers of software and hardware, assembly and transport, tools, equipment and services, components and finished products, consumables and carrier materials as well as cutting and finishing. Two of the viscom worlds showcase a completely separate segment as “fairs within the fair”: the Digital Signage World as the hub for digital signage including retail, guiding and information systems, interactive and multichannel, content and consulting, and the Display/PoS Expo presenting products and services in the fields of packaging, display racks, long and short-term displays as well as digital displays. The six viscom worlds represent all sectors of visual communication. The figures likewise speak for themselves. 70 percent of the stand area has already been booked. Again the leading national and international digital printing exhibitors are among those present, and the major advertising technology distributors will also exhibit at viscom.
